The rough-around-the-edges pub that once stood here is long gone – these days it’s “clearly popular and well-regarded” owing to chef-patron John Hooker’s “consistently good” gastro fare that’s “tremendous value for money” too.

“A world apart from the rough and ready boozer it was in the 1990s” – this “excellent rural-style pub (but in the town)” is nowadays “a warm and welcoming local with restaurant standard food to boot. Chef patron [for the last five years] John Hooker has truly stamped his mark here, and whilst not doing anything too fashionably clever ensures that dishes really do taste their best”.

For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

The food at the Cornish Arms was all danger...
Reviewed 4 months, 21 days ago

"The food at the Cornish Arms was all dangerously delicious, from the ineffably light, rich and tangy cheddar tart to the splendid slow-cooked lamb belly with broad beans, whipped feta and gravy to drown in. They look after you very well, too. I've had far less pleasure for far more dough."
