“A rooftop restaurant with splendid views” makes “pre-theatre eating fun” at the RSC’s HQ – as well as “taking away the fear of being late for the show” (“it’s so convenient!”). Unsurprisingly, it’s not the last word in top gastronomy, but most reporters are mellow about any trade-offs involved (“tasty if not special…”, “nothing to frighten, but reaches a fairly good standard…”, “a bit pre-prepared, but very good for an arts venue…”)
A “nice setting” – especially if you can nab “a window seat to enjoy the view” – boosts a visit to the RSC’s large and airy rooftop bar/restaurant, with outside terrace overlooking the swans gliding along the Avon. The food is not really the point, but by most accounts it’s “perfectly decent – especially for an institutional restaurant”.
“Make sure you have a table with a view” (“it’s worth going just for the views of Stratford”) if you stray up to the RSC’s rooftop venue in the gods of the old theatre. It’s not a foodie destination, but it’s consistently well-rated.
Set in “fascinating” and “iconic” surroundings – the gods of the old theatre – the RSC’s rooftop venue is a real “treat” offering “very thoughtful service and well-above-average food” for an arts venue. Try for an outside table in summer to enjoy splendid views across the river.
