Harden's survey result
Summary
“The ambience if you can get a window seat is excellent” in the top-floor restaurant of the RSC, whose rooftop position gives fine views of the river and swans below. It’s not a foodie experience as such, but some regulars believe “standards have improved since their enforced Covid break”.
Summary
Presumably due to pandemic-related closures, the rooftop restaurant at the RSC inspired no feedback in this year’s survey, although typically it’s the most commented-on place in town. We have, however, maintained its former rating on the basis that it is a handy choice for visitors – even those not going to a production – and enjoys fine riverside views.
Summary
“A rooftop restaurant with splendid views” makes “pre-theatre eating fun” at the RSC’s HQ – as well as “taking away the fear of being late for the show” (“it’s so convenient!”). Unsurprisingly, it’s not the last word in top gastronomy, but most reporters are mellow about any trade-offs involved (“tasty if not special…”, “nothing to frighten, but reaches a fairly good standard…”, “a bit pre-prepared, but very good for an arts venue…”)

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
