Summary
“A little away from the coast”, Aga & Lewis King’s small venue in a former coffee shop is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2026. They offer the option of a Shorter menu on Wednesdays and Thursdays (five courses for £65 per person), but it’s the Longer version that’s always available with seven courses for £85 per person. “The ingredients, cooking, presentation are superb” and Aga’s wine pairing is exceptional. (“Good thing it’s got an outside loo (due to lack of space) because the food’s so good I couldn’t afford it otherwise!”).
Summary
Lewis King and wife Aga have a real hit on their hands with this “wonderful restaurant”. Aga takes care of the “great” welcome and wines, while Lewis is behind the “amazing cooking from a one-man kitchen”, which is strong on sourcing, and comes via short or long set menus (Wednesday and Thursday) or the longer menu only on Friday and Saturday. Fans just “wish we lived nearer”.
Summary
Norfolk chef Lewis King and wife Aga have “struck a winning balance” at this small ex-coffee shop, whose honours include the GFG’s accolade for Best Local Restaurant in Britain – and where “the atmosphere and décor is nothing outstanding in the best possible way – a simple yet tasteful interior that feels very calm, cosy and welcoming”. In the kitchen, Lewis turns out “extremely high-quality and creative food” (much locally sourced) from short and long set menus, while “passionate yet knowledgeable” Aga ensures a “fantastic” welcome and wines.
Summary
This “tiny dining room with absolutely fabulous food and service” – “from a superstar of a chef and his wife, managing front-of-house” – is “ideal for that very special occasion”. Norfolk-born chef Lewis King and his wife Aga launched their 24-cover spot in a former coffee shop in 2016, on a budget of just £15,000.
For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

The Old Bank Bistro Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Our nicest meal of the year, most of which have been the hard to miss tasteings, but this one was by far the best. A very enthusiastic and knowledgable team, virtually every ingredient had a story and it showed in the flavours of every dish. The dishes from the numerous canapes onward all extremely well dressed and presented. We hope we can return, subject to managing a booking. "
"Wonderful welcome and service. Very interesting ( in a good way!) selection of wines in the wine pairings with the as always excellent tasting menu"
"Good thing it’s got an outside loo because the food is worth 2 Michelin stars. Then I couldn’t afford it. Aga’s wine pairing is exceptional. "
