“A real foodie destination” – a “small room” with open kitchen. “Everyone sits at the same time for the seasonal, largely foraged, 10+ course tasting menu, prepared by the small number of chefs then presented to each table”. At lunch it’s a four course affair. There’s also a cookery school operation that operates at other times out of the premises. “Been many times now and really can’t see why this place has not had wider recognition. Simply feels special”.

“A small restaurant with a single sitting, delivering an outstanding multi-course tasting menu for a fantastic price” – this open kitchen/chef’s table experience delivers a ten-course tasting menu using “some really creative cooking, and the selection differs using local and foraged ingredients every visit”. It’s only open Thursday-Saturday and sits on the 3,000-acre Rougham estate, alongside a cookery school. Feedback is only limited, but remains very upbeat.

“Quite exceptional and such a pleasure to visit”, this “wonderful concept is very different from most restaurants”“an intimate open kitchen (16-20 covers only)” serving “superb local ingredients, many of which are foraged by the chefs” on the surrounding 3,000-acre Rougham estate. “All courses are delivered to your table by the chefs and carefully explained” – it’s “amazing value for money too”, at between £40 per person and £75 per person for as many as ten courses. “Almost don’t want to write a review in case too many people find out about it!”

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
