Summary
“Great food and also a sense that they are putting back into the community” inspires support for this pub-with-rooms on the village green. Run as a youth-focused social enterprise, supporting young people to access training and paid work experience, it has won a string of awards over its almost ten years in operation. In summer, its ‘Incredible Edible Beer Garden’ comes into its own: almost an acre in size and with lots of interest as well as outside seating.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Owner's description
Traditional country pub with fine ales, fine wine and good food.
The pub was built in the mid 18th century and stands on the village green in an attractive part of rural West Lancashire, it has a warm and welcoming atmosphere and is a popular local watering hole.
It has consistently been awarded accolades for its food being Lancashire Dining Pub of the year in the Good Pub Guide in 1999, 2001, 2005 and 2006,2012. With the farm shop next door, the kitchen uses local produce from the fertile Lancashire plain and some of our own meat grown on the farm in Parbold. We welcome drinkers and diners alike.
In the summer there is a large garden at the back of the pub which is a real sun trap with a well tended but unconventional bowling green, a games lawn and wildlife area.
