“The ‘one to beat’ in the surrounding area, despite increasing competition” – this harbourside restaurant with rooms is “a place for a quite special dinner, where the imaginative menus and ingredients continue to reflect Jude Kereama‘s heritage” (a mixture of New Zealand and Asian backgrounds). “The tasting menus remain very good value at a time when such menus are becoming all but prohibitively priced elsewhere”.

“Jude Kereama’s blend of Asian, New Zealand and West Country cuisines never fails to delight” (with “exciting” tasting menus a highlight) at this harbourside restaurant-with-rooms – and, “despite the increasing competition for quality cooking in Porthleven, it remains ahead of the pack”. The chef (also behind Kota Kai) was due to add a third string to his bow in Carnon Downs holiday apartment complex the Valley, but the long-awaited arrival was apparently nixed by Covid.

One of the “top gastronomic establishments in the southwest” – this harbourside restaurant from Maori/Chinese-Malay chef Jude Kereama thrills all comers with “a memorable marriage of local seafood and Asian influences”. He opened the venture in 2006 with his late wife Jane, who sadly died of cancer in 2019; she was the driving force behind Porthleven’s annual food festival, which now attracts up to 70,000 visitors. Top Tip – “the blue cheese ice cream is a revelation”.

“Jude Kereama’s genius cooking” makes this “unforgettable” restaurant – “set by Porthleven harbour”“a must when visiting south west Cornwall” according to its numerous fans. Kota, which he runs with his wife Jane, means shellfish[j] in Maori, one half of Jude’s New Zealand/Chinese-Malay heritage, and fans say it’s “up there with the best”. Top Menu Tip: “the beautifully balanced tasting menu was capped by Jude’s wonderful blue cheese ice cream”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
