“A magical position overlooking Porthminster Beach just below the revamped Tate” with “brilliant views” creates an “amazing setting” for this beloved “hut/café makeover”: one of Cornwall’s better-known eateries. After middling reports in recent years, food is back on the up, winning nothing but praise this year for its “excellent” standards, with fish and seafood tending to take centre stage.
A “fabulous setting”, with a “sublime view if you get a window table”, is the trump card of this famous venue overlooking Porthminster Beach. The ratings for food have revived a little this year after a slump, and while there are still the odd reports of “mediocre” results, there were more reports of “stunning fish dishes” from a kitchen which is “never short of ideas”.
“A beautiful location overlooking Porthminster Beach” remains the ‘crown jewel’ feature of this “fantastic beach restaurant”. But while “it will always be a fantastic location in which to eat, over the years the food has definitely gone downhill”, and while it can still deliver “a great, lazy, late Sunday lunch” or “fabulous breakfast overlooking the harbour”, compared with yesteryear it’s “resting on its laurels”.
This “lovely beach restaurant” just yards from the sea is marvellously located. “It’s relying on its fame and ambience” nowadays, though – “the food, although good, seems overhyped and service at peak times can be incredibly slow” or “distracted”.
