“The most fabulous setting with the best views in Port Isaac” – this smartly refurbished hotel is Wenn House in TV’s Doc Martin. Head chef Jack Clayton “majors in fresh local fish and seafood”, but with “lots of options, including vegetarian dishes”.

Some “outstanding” meals are reported at this newly refurbished hotel: formerly Bay Hotel (aka Wenn House in TV’s Doc Martin) and under the same ownership as the nearby Port Gaverne Hotel and Pilchards Café. There’s not yet enough feedback yet to back up those who claim it’s “on a par with Nathan Outlaw opposite”, but suffice to say that the comparison’s not a preposterous one with unanimously high ratings awarded to Great British Menu chef, Andrew Sheridan’s cuisine – either simpler items from the à la carte, or fancier five-course and seven-course tasting options.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

My review is unfair…..we never got to eat...

"My review is unfair…..we never got to eat there. They texted me, spelling my name wrong, at 2:30pm telling me my 8pm reservation had been cancelled as they had decided to close for the winter due To an electrical problem. They offered to accommodate me at their other other hotel further down the coast. Stuff happens I get but they had decided to close a week previously apparently. They clearly they had waited to the last minute just as a way of shoving me in to their other place which wasn’t what we were after at all. Very poor way to treat customers. If they’d have called in the week I would have understood but to hustle me like that is out of order. Still- happy days Outlaws had a cancellation and was superb!!!"
