The “best afternoon tea ever” – arguably the main event at this “Art Deco masterpiece” of a hotel, in a “stunning location” overlooking Morecambe Bay. The food in the dining room – the ‘Sun Terrace’ – is “always enjoyable”, too; although the odd cynic says “you’re paying for the views”.

“The best afternoon tea ever, with beautiful views over Morecambe Bay to the Lake District plus delicious sandwiches, scones and cakes, and a choice of teas and more if needed” – this well-known hotel is an Art Deco masterpiece (dating from 1933) and most recommended for its “first-class afternoon tea”. Its “lovely dining room” – the aptly named ‘Sun Terrace’ – also receives enthusiastic support, though: “good food with local choices and the sunsets are truly amazing”.

“An imaginative and well delivered menu with plenty of seafood options” lives up to the setting in the beautiful Sun Terrace restaurant of this iconic hotel – a masterpiece of Art Deco architecture from 1933, with “stunning views across Morecambe Bay”. It’s “fantastic value, too”, with a choice of main dishes at under £20, and also serves a “perfect afternoon tea”. Twenty years ago the hotel was derelict and in danger of crumbling, which makes its immaculate appearance today all the sweeter.

“The glamour of the building competes with the beauty of the outlook” at this “superb Art Deco hotel with the most beautiful views across Morecambe Bay, which makes this a fabulous location for dinner”. “Better still, the food is very good!” – Lancastrian sourced, and in an unfancy, modern British style. There’s also a “quintessential afternoon tea, with perfect sandwiches, scones and cakes”, while “it’s worth staying over for the breakfast – and the view of the birdlife on the shore”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
