Manchester’s own dirty burger brand (it now has branches in Liverpool and Leeds) is – its loyal fans insist – “the best in the UK, by a mile”. They have partnered with Aubrey Allen – ‘literally the best butcher in the country: they deliver to Buckingham Palace ffs’ – to develop an ultra-juicy and tender burger with flavour to match. There are now four in town, although the original on High Street closed this year, moving to the nearby site vacated by Home Sweet Home (RIP).

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"change of location, change of butcher and maybe a few others besides. still good tasting and fair value. but not as juicy or messy as it used to be. and somehow losing flavour and the overall experience. it's been a while, but it doesn't seem to live up to the memories of old. it's almost with new non leaking, non algae encrusted bare brick walls and a much tidier look the food has become tidier? but worth a mention for a big step forward was the veggie burger (pea protein).. great flavour and texture. again a little dry. but so good my daughter wanted reassurance it wasn't meat. fries good - would be excellent if served piping hot. service is friendly. it was always a little nonchalant - it still is. and yet this could be tidied up and given a little more attention. ambiance wise. cleaner. more modern decor. tidy. better for some? more comfortable. but maybe for me lost a little of the grimy charm. still a reliable choice for a burger...
