Summary

With its fortunes revived under the Huntsbridge Group of late, this “lovely old thatched building with sunny conservatory” joined the local, ever-growing Cambscuisine empire in January 2018; fans say it’s “back in business”, turning out “interesting and well-prepared” food.

Summary

“Definitely improving after its return to the Huntsbridge Group” – this “very attractive thatched gastropub” (a varsity fave as it’s a short hop outside Cambridge) was “very nicely refurbished, particularly the conservatory” in summer 2016, and the food (“with an Italian theme”) is back on “delicious” form.

Summary

Long beloved of varsity students and their doting parents, this “picturesque thatched dining pub in a pretty village”, known for its “lovely” conservatory setting, has put in an uneven performance for many years. But – Stop Press – in October 2016, erstwhile owners, John & Julia Hoskins re-acquired the property after the latest regime ceased trading, and initiated a major re-building programme – so a return to form may well be on the cards at this old favourite.

"Nice Pub lunch with a large menu. They pride themselves on fish and I tried their signature crusted Hake. This was tasty but very small at £18.50. No interest when I mentioned this. The salmon and crayfish starter was also only average, small frozen crayfish were tasteless. The other main course was a risotto which was again average too wet and lacking that flavour that risotto needs otherwise it is boring. Deserts were both good, home made treacle tart and millefeuille. Wine is well chosen and water brought on tap in carafe. Service is cheerful and willing. Good place to go if you are nearby."
