“Guilty-pleasure comfort food” served in a “crowded but fun atmosphere” have made this “so authentically American” BBQ and crabshack a King’s Road fixture for 27 years (and it underwent a major upgrade in 2018). Now with offshoots in Covent Garden and Canary Wharf, the outfit can seem “very corporate” and is “probably best for large groups or office parties”.
“The closest you can feel to America in London” conveys much of what need to know – pro or con – about these US-style BBQs in Chelsea, Covent Garden and Canary Wharf. “What’s not to like – bottomless beer or margaritas, a constant supply of chicken and ribs with sides of coleslaw, fries and beans, chirpy and attentive staff and great music!”, is the friendly view. “Just awful” is the riposte.
Fans report “an adequate meat-fest” and “great lobsters and shrimp” too at these “fun” US-style BBQ shacks, although “given the proliferation of other smokehouses nowadays” even supporters acknowledge “there’s better BBQ elsewhere”. Both Covent Garden and the Chelsea original outscore their huge new Canary Wharf sibling, which divides opinion; enthusiasts say “it’s a great night out, with a stunning bar and top live music” – sceptics just feel it provides “horrible everything”.
