Open from late March 2025 in the heart of Soho (but too late for any feedback in our annual diners’ poll): a freshly made pasta bar from the team behind nearby Italian 40 Dean Street. It’s a small space with a no-booking policy, so expect high tables and fast service. In this April 2025 review, the Standard’s David Ellis welcomed it as the “spiritual successor” to the inexpensive old-school Italian restaurants that made the district famous. The food – mainly classic pasta dishes – may not have been adventurous, but “unlike the old guard, these plates are all genuinely good”.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

What the Newspaper Critics are saying

Evening Standard

David Ellis welcomed the opening of Nima Safaei’s third restaurant in Soho – a “spiritual successor” to the inexpensive old-school Italian restaurants that made the district famous.

David’s party of three shared a three-course meal plus wine and service for £110 all in. The food – mainly classic pasta dishes – may not have been adventurous, but “unlike the old guard, these plates are all genuinely good”.

“Safaei has opened somewhere from before, when restaurateurs thought business was all about making their customers feel good. No wonder they call him the Duchess of Soho.”

David Ellis - 2025-04-06
