“A wonderful quiet dining room”, where “the staff are top-notch, the atmosphere too” – Gino Taddei & Sally Eidlitz’s “lovely” restaurant between Kensington and Olympia “has been going for years” and “they have fed generations” with “top-quality Italian cuisine”. Many describe it as “a favourite local” – a view shared by the late Michael Winner.

This tasteful backstreet 1980s Italian, with interesting art on the walls, sits in the no-man’s-land between Kensington and Olympia; and has become less well-known since the death of Michael Winner ten years ago (who used to plug it remorselessly in The Sunday Times as his favourite restaurant). Its quiet virtues as a high quality and authentic venture have changed little over the years: “still love this venue, but best to go in the week when the kitchen isn’t too busy”. Top Menu Tip – go for fish and seafood here.

“Spankingly good Italian food” is found at this long-established modern venue in an “isolated location” behind Holland Park, whose “posh locals know a good thing when they see it”. There are plenty of “unusual options on the menu”, with an emphasis on “original and well-prepared fish dishes”.

“Always good for a special occasion” – this family-run Italian between Olympia and Holland Park has maintained the highest standards for more than 20 years – and shows little sign of relaxing into veteran status. Still a “slick operation in terms of food presentation and service”, it is a “really lovely place to eat, with good-quality food and wine”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
