Harden's says

Even many savvy Londoners may be hard-pressed to navigate to this interestingly located Spring 2026 opening, which occupies a very attractive but hitherto mostly obscure pub with terrace in a residential restaurant wasteland about 20 minutes walk from the north reaches of the Portobello Road. It will not lack opening interest as it’s the project of restaurant royalty – Jon Spiteri was an original partner in The French House, St. John and Sessions Arts Club, and partner Melanie Arnold, co-founded of Rochelle Canteen. Here they are partnered with their sons, Lorcan and Fin (who are behind Caravel) and daughter Molly (in restaurant biz dev). It certainly wont suffer immediate local competition, but the pull of these in-crowd restaurateurs to the Notting Hillbilly crowd may mean they succeed here where others have failed.

Not enough people have commented yet

Our reviews are based on an annual survey of ordinary diners which runs in Spring each year. But this establishment has not yet gathered enough feedback for our editors to write it up.

Do you think it deserves to be better known?

Write a quick review now using our restaurant diary service. That way it might catch our attention. Next survey, you can transfer your diary entry into our survey system. Everyone who contributes 5 or more reviews in our survey will qualify for a free guide.

For 35 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

What the Newspaper Critics are saying

The Daily Telegraph

Tom Parker Bowles gave a warm welcome to the new gastropub combining the talents of a “great dining dynasty” – Jon Spiteri, Melanie Arnold and their children Lorcan, Fin and Molly –  and already feels like a “much-loved local” after only two visits.

The menu of four starters and four mains included a “beautifully cooked” tranche of sea bass and rare onglet with hand-cut chips. “Pork-belly skewers are braised in cider, compressed then deep-fried. Seven hours’ work for a couple of magnificently meaty mouthfuls.”

Puddings, though, “need more work”. Chocolate mousse is rich but a little ponderous, while an apricot and amaretti biscuit crumble in custard is “a touch sparse”.
