Breaking news

25 November 2022: Chris Denney yesterday confirmed the closure of Fiend, saying that local support had been brilliant but not enough to sustain the restaurant in what has been a very challenging year for the hospitality industry.

Harden's says

Chef Chris Denney, who previously ran the much-loved 108 Garage (RIP), launched this curiously named spot on the former Santo site in July 2021.

“Crazy food combinations that read so jarringly yet taste sensational”, alongside “demonic cocktails” deserve to make a hell of a hit of Chris Denney’s (ex 108 Garage) “dark and moody” yearling, just north of the Westway on the northerly section of the Portobello Road. You eat on the ground floor with its big open kitchen (with the option of a tasting menu as well as the à la carte), while in the basement there’s a bar. Already something of an in-crowd hit amongst the fooderati, it deserves to be more widely known.

Chris Denney, chef at the excellent but now defunct 108 Garage (RIP), launched this curiously named spot on the Notting Hill site that was formerly Santo (RIP) site in July 2021 (after our survey had concluded). You eat on the ground floor with views to the open kitchen (and there’s also a basement bar), with the option of either à la carte or a 6-course tasting menu. The cuisine is in a similar, creative modern European vein to what was offered at 108.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
