This “delicious local Italian” with “unusual” dishes is named for a Victorian cookery author and “ticks all the boxes” for Peckham types for whom it’s become a mainstay of the area over the last 10 years. In October 2024 it launched a “great new offshoot in the West End” occupying the louche Soho space beneath the Underbelly Boulevard theatre vacated by Café Kitty (RIP): well worth knowing about in these parts for its affordable prices and “generous helpings”. BREAKING NEWS – in July 2025, the Soho space was marked permanently closed on Google and had disappeared from the theatre’s website.

After 10 years, this low-key pioneer of the Peckham gastro scene “continues to serve excellent, good-value food” from a curt but interesting Italian menu with two or three options for each course; fans say consistency is high and that you are “never disappointed”. It takes its name from 19th-century cookery writer Pellegrino Artusi.

As it celebrates its tenth anniversary, this small Peckham Italian – named after Pellegrino Artusi, author of nineteenth-century classic ‘La Scienza in Cucina’ – is “still a destination” for its dedicated southeast London fans.

This tiny, hip Peckham local “delivers great food” from a short but impeccably prepared Italian menu. They look after their neighbourhood clientele well, with “home delivery kits a lifesaver during lockdown”. The name checks Pellegrino Artusi, 19th-century don of Italian cuisine.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
