With its “straightforward” offering including “very good fish and lamb” and its “welcome service”, this offshoot of a Brighton steakhouse is “a top option in the locality of The Bridge Theatre”, near City Hall – “it just works”.

“A restaurant of choice when you go to the nearby Bridge Theatre” – this five-year-old sibling to a Brighton original provides “a good welcome”, plus “very good steaks” and a “short but acceptable” menu of other options. “If it were not a little pricey for what it offers, I would be even more enthusiastic!”

Surprisingly limited, but all round very good, feedback on this London sibling to a Brighton original, where steaks, Sunday roasts and BBQ feasts are the mainstays of the menu. It’s a good-looking contemporary venue too, convenient for the new Bridge Theatre.

In the shiny new developments south of Tower Bridge, this stylish, but “down-to-earth” three-year-old (sibling to an original in Brighton) has a “wide menu” – from “delicious seafood” to mouthwatering steak – but it’s perhaps the “very meaty” dishes that score the highest approval ratings (charcoal grilled British beef cuts are a mainstay of the menu, and the Moroccan goat dish, when it’s on, is terrific).

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"A mid week lunch outing. A very friendly, warm greeting at the door. Shown to a good table. We all opted for the garlic prawn starters followed with two on the poussin dish, me, on the cod. The presentation is special, a lot of effort is put into that 1st look you get when you receive your food. We could not fault the staff serving at table. Wine served with panache !!. Quality of the ingredients, excellent. If we had one small grumble it would be... the temperature of the food... it could have been hotter. All in all in a good lunch, "

"Good grilled meats, fast friendly service, short but adequate pre Bridge theatre menu. Steak was too big to eat on the spot but they were happy to provide box to take out leftovers. Dessert was so-so - better to concentrate on the steak. "

"After our happy experiences at the Salt Room in Brighton, we shouldn’t have been surprised to be served such delicious food here. But it was another very happy experience. The accuracy of the steak grilling, and the freshness of the sea bream, from the pre-theatre men, were highlights, but the whole visit was a bonus joy to our evening at Guys and Dolls next door."
