Surprisingly limited, but all round very good, feedback on this London sibling to a Brighton original, where steaks, Sunday roasts and BBQ feasts are the mainstays of the menu. It’s a good-looking contemporary venue too, convenient for the new Bridge Theatre.
In the shiny new developments south of Tower Bridge, this stylish, but “down-to-earth” three-year-old (sibling to an original in Brighton) has a “wide menu” – from “delicious seafood” to mouthwatering steak – but it’s perhaps the “very meaty” dishes that score the highest approval ratings (charcoal grilled British beef cuts are a mainstay of the menu, and the Moroccan goat dish, when it’s on, is terrific).
In the shiny new developments south of Tower Bridge, this stylish, but “down-to-earth” two-year-old (sibling to an original in Brighton) has a “wide menu” – from “delicious seafood” to mouthwatering steak – but it’s perhaps the “very meaty” dishes that score the highest approval ratings (charcoal grilled British beef cuts are a mainstay of the menu, and the Moroccan goat dish, when it’s on, is terrific). Top Tip – “perfect before a show at the new Bridge Theatre” (“I’d go to a performance just as an excuse to dine at The Coal Shed!”)
“A great addition to the SE1 restaurant scene” – this import from Brighton has a “sleek and contemporary design” within one of the new units of the development near Tower Bridge incorporating London’s newest theatre, The Bridge. Although there are one or two dissenting voices for whom the venue fell short, most reports say it’s a “meat-lovers dream”, with “superb and personal service too”. Top Menu Tips – numerous dishes are recommended: “the smoked goat is an absolute revelation”, there’s “exceptionally good steak”, “fabulous grilled octopus” and “really pleasing sweets”.
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

The Coal Shed Restaurant Diner Reviews
"I went to this restaurant with a group of people. Upon arrival I was greeted with a smile and shown to my table. Being as it was a Tuesday meant that provided we were prepared to pay £5 corkage, we could take our own wine ( which I did ). For starters I had the burrata which was delicious . My mains were potato gnocchi with creamed spinach as a side. The desert was Sticky Toffee Pudding with Honeycomb Ice Cream. All in all the conversation was flowing. "
