It makes me very sad to archive this.??Last week, Great Nepalese (my favorite restaurant in London) closed for good. They were open for 44 years, started by a grandma (named Renu) and grandpa right off of Euston station at 48 Eversholt St. ??In my two years here, I got to know Suraj, their grandson who ran the place with his brother and friends. ??It was the first place I ever made proper friends in London, the first restaurant to call home and bring other friends to with pride. It’s where I was when Charlie Kirk died and also where we learned of the Gen Z uprising in Nepal. They used to run a larger restaurant in town but kept this location open for the last decades. After their grandfather passed last year, the uncles decided to suddenly close its doors. ??I will miss their Mutton Sukuti, dried mutton almost like a jerky, cooked in the tandoori and covered in the most delicious of spice mixes. The fact I will never have their Lamb Khursani, a tender, sweet curry and their mutton rice again makes me feel irrationally hollow.

The lifetime 15% card for “Suraj’s Friend” I was gifted is something I’ll keep till the grave. ??Now Renu can rest and perhaps the guys can get on to other things. Hopefully it means a new family has arrived in London ready for a 44 year reign. Goodbye Great Nepalese.

A “restaurant of choice since the ’80s” for a hard core of long-time fans – this simple curry house by Euston station was founded by Gopal Manandhar, who has worked in restaurants since the age of 12, and is now run with his two sons. His wife Renu provided the recipes for Nepalese specialities including momo dumplings.

By the side of Euston station, this “splendid, long-established” café – founded by Gopal and Renu Manandhar in 1982 and now run with their sons – is still “as good as ever”, with a menu featuring Nepalese specialities including momo dumplings.

Fay Maschler’s review from the 1980s is blown up for all to see as you enter this “old stalwart that’s had a brush-up” in recent years: a low-key curry house (est. 1982) long known as one of the few bright culinary sparks near Euston station. Go for the smattering of Nepalese specials amidst the “simple and unchanging” selection of subcontinental dishes. Bills can end up higher, though, than its “basic” style might suggest.

Time to kill near Euston station? Grab a bite at this “long standing, quality local” – a sweet-looking, little curry house (est 1982), still proudly displaying its Fay Maschler review from shortly after it opened. “It always delivers good dishes” – Nepalese specials are best – but prices are not as ‘bargain basement’ as its appearance might suggest.

For 35 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Great alternative to a train sandwich when heading out of Euston. Good selection of dishes available and enough for three to share. "
