This well-known Archway pub (George Michael’s favourite back in the day, apparently) benefits from a beautiful, high-ceilinged dining annex (originally a ballroom) and serves “what you might call traditional food with an international twist (particularly Spanish with some tapas evenings”).

Fans hail this Archway tavern as “the best for miles around” (it was George Michael’s favourite back in the day) – “always welcoming”, and with a “terrific menu of mainly British cuisine” served in the dining room, which has “some charm as a former ballroom”. Top Menu Tip – the “great roast beef” is a treat for Sunday lunch.

“Still one of the best gastropubs in North London”, this Archway tavern “bounced back” from the pandemic and “the food remains as interestingly reliable as ever”. It’s a “lovely place for a treat”, especially under the “beautiful vaulted ceiling in the dining room” (originally built as a ballroom).

“Our absolute favourite” is a typical verdict on this handsome Archway tavern, well-known across north London for its atmospheric interior (the dining annexe is a converted period ballroom), “imaginative menu and friendly service”. About the worst that anybody says is that it “can be noisy”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Have enjoyed a decent number of past visits...

"Have enjoyed a decent number of past visits, remains a place with a warm welcome, good beer and reasonable wine, but for once the food disappointed, lukewarm and slightly undercooked according to other diners. Would be sad if this represents a persistent fall from grace."
