Following on from Neil Borthwick’s departure a year ago, his wife Angela Hartnett has severed her ties with this large and elegant gastropub-style haunt that she helped create from a converted Shoreditch warehouse. The amount of feedback the place generates has declined dramatically, and the few reports we have are mixed: some say it’s still very good all round, but more downbeat commentary says “this used to be very good, but our recent meal was very poor”.
“A wonderful combination of low-key style, effortlessly friendly service, and exceptionally well-crafted food” draw fans to Angela Hartnett’s “buzzy”, “unstuffy” and spacious pub in Shoreditch (converted from a former warehouse). A minority, though, are less wowed: it’s “decent, but there’s no racing of the pulse”.
“A terrific bar at the right price-point, kitchen on display and live vinyl in the background” all contribute to the “terrific atmosphere” at Angela Hartnett’s stylish, big Shoreditch gastropub (the conversion of a former warehouse). Some feedback is mixed, but the overall verdict is of “lovely” food and solid value for money.
“Just outside the price bubble of the City”, Angela Hartnett’s “large pub” with open kitchen is “not just an afterthought to her flashier establishments” – the cooking “goes from strength to strength”, service is “slick” and the interior feels “dark and Shoreditch-y”. Tasty bar bites too.
