Our reviews are based on an annual survey of ordinary diners which runs in Spring each year. But this establishment has not yet gathered enough feedback for our editors to write it up.
Do you think it deserves to be better known?
Write a quick review now using our restaurant diary service. That way it might catch our attention. Next survey, you can transfer your diary entry into our survey system. Everyone who contributes 5 or more reviews in our survey will qualify for a free guide.
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Smiths of Smithfield, Ground Floor Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Disappointed Entered the venue at 1355 on Wednesday and were ignored for quite a long time, paucity of staff on the floor complimented by very few customers. We had wanted first floor but was closed so moved to bar area. Service was spectacularly slow. Finally met at the door, I said my name and said we had a booking reply was “do you want a table”? Repeated name and the fact we had a booking, eventually the waiter twigged and sat us down in comfy seats. Some considerable time later they took our order from their very limited menu. My partner enjoyed her huge steak (not great quality meat, very chewy)sandwich but it took a very long time for the waiter to consult with cook to have the chips NOT inside the steak sandwich. Our food arrived and my chorizo as very piquant! The squid was 85%+ citing very little actual squid. I went to the toilet (clean) and the plates were cleared whilst I was away, 27 minutes later the staff inthe large virtually empty restaurant came over to ask if we wanted dessert! She went to get the menu and I pointed out that as the choice was pavlova or cheese I didn’t need to see the menu! The pavlova was odd, base was incredibly chewy and I needed two spoons to separate it. The “cream” was airy and very watery, the berries weren’t that nice either. My elderflower drink was over three pounds £1 in supermarket, major markup Got up and called staff over to pay the bill as we didn’t want to wait another long time. Not a very inspiring experience."
