In less than 20 years, Danny Meyer has transformed his New York City hot-dog cart into a global fast-food brand giant with eight outlets in London – including a Covent Garden flagship that was revamped earlier this year. Ratings remain remarkably solid for “a chain that does what it’s supposed to do”.
NYC star-restaurateur Danny Meyer’s global operation was founded as a hot-dog cart in a New York park in 2001 and has found success in London, as elsewhere. “Admittedly the burgers are pretty good”, but ratings support those who feel “they are not that amazing versus others” and likewise that “there’s nothing in the decor to make you want to hang around”. Recent openings include Cannon Street and a new outlet is scheduled at Boxpark Wembley in late 2018.
“Top burgers for texture and taste” (“with potato rolls flown specially in from the US!”) win numerous fans for Danny Meyer’s “no fuss no fancy” burger operations. Even supporters can find them “bloody pricey” however, and critics gripe about “anaemic” portions, and “long waits”.
“Accurately cooked, with good char”, but “a bit small for the price” – such are the pros and cons of the “quality burgers (and hot dogs)” at Danny Meyer’s American-style operations.
