Harden's survey result
Summary
This “very popular” Chinese has built a loyal local following over 25 years for its “great food” and “brilliant staff” – most of them from founder Foo Trong’s family, including his wife Michala, brother and head chef Viet Hoa, sister Lucy and parents – all of whom “really care”. “Trongs never disappoints – nothing is too much trouble. We’ve been going for 15 years and just ask them to bring us what they think is good!”
Summary
“Still our favourite!” – this beloved Chinese operation remains “just fabulous all round”, delivering “exquisite and authentic Asian flavours, paired with great service and years of knowledge” from the Vietnamese owners; “they hardly need reviews as word of mouth seems to always keep them busy, but here is one!”

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Trongs Restaurant Diner Reviews

"Staff brilliant and Mr Trong (if that was he) was great to talk to about the catering industry in general and the changing face of Ipswich. Food was traditional high street chinese but generous and thoughtfully spiced and the quality of ingredients was high. Would recommend."

"This Vietnamese run Chinese is still the best local one, family run and very consistent. The only critisism is the saucing can be a little overpowering so the meal can seem a little heavyish. "
