“I could eat here every day and die happy”, say fans of this Shanxi street-food canteen opposite Arsenal’s Emirates stadium – “the homemade dumplings and noodles are consistently superlative and soooo moreish”. “Service is matter-of-fact Chinese, seating is short and tight”, “but you go just for the food and you’re not disappointed!”

“Cheap and authentic”: “the noodles are so unctuous and delicious” at this canteen opposite the Emirates stadium – “and it’s BYO to boot”. For Gooners, the “excellent food tastes even better if Arsenal win”.

“The hand-pulled noodles are so moreish and unctuous – really off the chart”, at this basic “hole in the wall” opposite Arsenal’s Emirates stadium, serving unusual dishes from Xi’an in central China. “The tables full of Chinese customers vouch for the authenticity of dishes such as black fungus and pig’s ear in soy sauce”.

“Lip-smackingly good, seriously authentic” dishes from Xi’an in central China, with “a great chilli kick in every mouthful”, can be found at this “small and cramped” venue by the Arsenal stadium “with the ambiance of a transport caff”. “Some dishes are alien to the European palate”, but it’s “better – and cheaper – than anywhere in Chinatown”, so “always full of Chinese students from the local college, who know a good thing”. Top Tip – “scrumptious noodles and dumplings: follow the chef’s recommendations”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"For the price, you're unlikely to find much better food around London. Massive plates of fresh noodles full of zing are the star attraction - the Biang Biang noodles are the headline dish, but the cold Liangpi noodles, the Qishan pork and the rich Paomo are also must-tries. Service is fairly minimalist but friendly, and the space is cramped and purely functional. Remember - BYO if drinking."
