“A go-to place for fresh fish”“right on the beach amongst the fishing boats” in “one of the most attractive parts of the Hastings shoreline” – this weather-beaten wooden shack offers “great value” with its “huge portions”, and is “very popular with both visitors and locals”.

“Fish straight off the day boats” means this very functional operation can knock out “delicious fish ’n’ chips”. Factor in the “great location” near the harbour, the “catch of the day” specials, the “great value” and “proper mugs of tea” – no wonder “booking is essential” (phone only).

“You’re at the seaside, so it’s gotta be fish ’n’ chips, and Maggie’s has to be the destination”; it may have humble décor (plastic table cloths etc), but the “fabulous view over the Hastings fishing fleet” more than compensates for that, hence its popularity (“advise booking as it’s usually full!”).

For 32 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Great location for a family seaside lunch. Friendly service. Generous portions. Booking is highly recommended. Have very occasionally managed a walk-in but on a dull midweek in the ‘off’ season! "
