Harden's says

Tom Kitchin, the chef behind Leith’s “outstanding” dining destination The Kitchin, has taken over this restaurant-with-rooms in the village of Gullane on Scotland’s East coast. Just a stone’s throw from Muirfield golf course, and a 30-minute drive from Edinburgh, the hotel features 12 bedrooms, a bar and 60-cover dining room serving locally sourced produce.

“What a cracking spot after a round of golf!” say fans of Tom & Michaela Kitchin’s East Lothian outpost, which is handy for nearby Muirfield. It serves “excellent food, and an amazing breakfast if you stay overnight”.

“A very stylish pub/restaurant with rooms” run by Edinburgh restaurant royalty, Tom & Michaela Kitchin, where the “food comes with a distinctly Scottish bias and the atmosphere and service are friendly”. “Very nice outside area with a BBQ for those days in Scotland when the weather permits”.

A very sophisticated coastal gastroboozer-with-rooms from Tom & Michaela Kitchin, following their acclaimed Edinburgh restaurant, and featuring a pitched-roof dining room plus extensive gardens. It didn’t inspire a huge volume of feedback this year, but the nature-to-plate cooking is often judged “excellent” (with “all those little touches that lift a good meal to a great one”).

Tom & Michaela Kitchin have forayed outside of Edinburgh for the first time to this coastal village, heavily refurbishing what was previously the Golf Inn: now a hip restaurant with rooms, where the dining room – with pitched roof – is decked out in a very ‘now’ design of greige, wood and bare bricks. Most reviews say its modern gastropub fare is as outstanding as its pedigree would suggest, but there’s also a minority for whom it’s “disappointing given TK’s reputation and very overpriced for rather average pub food”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
