Harden's says
Guildford's branch of the ever-expanding Ivy Brasserie brand.
Harden's survey result
Summary
A “glamorous” outpost of Richard Caring’s ever-growing brasserie empire set across two floors, and with a particularly scenic patio overlooking the headline attraction announced in its name. As per its siblings, the menu hops from British classics to Asian-inspired dishes and veggie options, and there’s currently a two-course ‘£19.17 Menu’ revisiting classics from the original London restaurant, from their famed shepherd’s pie to frozen berries with white chocolate sauce; also as with its siblings, not everyone is convinced by the food (“nothing to rave about”) but it remains one of the more commented-upon venues in these parts.
Summary
“The view is unbeatable” (and what it overlooks is incorporated into the name) of this highly rated link in Richard Caring’s national chain; as for the rest, you can expect the usual “pretty” decor and a “decent menu selection” (“including healthy choices that don’t feel like a sacrifice”); “it isn’t cheap though, so save it for an occasion”.
Summary
By most accounts “one of the better Ivy Cafés” – there are “no real surprises”, “but it’s well executed and a fun place in a nice location”; “if the weather’s pleasant you can sit on the balcony”.
Summary
“Get a table outside and savour the view” of Guildford castle during warmer days, if you visit this brasserie offshoot of Richard Caring’s national chain. Most accounts praise “classic comfort food cuisine” here. Some cynicism is also evident though: “it’s what I’d expect of a franchise…”, “if you come to what’s effectively a posh Côte, it’s about the people and the ambience”.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
