Harden's survey result
Under the Relais & Châteaux banner, and partly designed by Thomas Hardy no less (an architect before he was an author), this “gem” of a country hotel is “a little out of the way but well worth the effort”. When it comes to its “comfortable fine dining” offer, “no doubt the price reflects the amazing surroundings” but, given that “everything is beautifully done”, only the odd reporter raises any complaint.
“Wonderful food”, “immaculate service” and a “stunning wine list” – a meal at this “beautiful” Relais & Châteaux operation (part of the Red Carnation group) is “just how dining should be in a true country hotel”. Set in the heart of Wessex, elements of the building were designed by Thomas Hardy – an architect before he became a novelist [who knew? ED].
“Fine dining at its best in the most relaxing environment” – this “grand” Relais & Châteaux country house hotel inspires nothing but enthusiasm for its romantic dining conservatory, and even if the food can seem rather “elaborate” it’s “beautifully cooked and presented”.
“The perfect country retreat” – this “elegant” Relais & Châteaux country house hotel is “exceptional in every way”, not least its “romantic” dining conservatory, overlooking beautiful gardens; chef Steven Titman produces “excellent” cuisine, backed up by a notable wine list.
