As we go to press in October 2021, the outlook for Tom Kitchin and his wife’s Bruntsfield bistro is not clear. The restaurant closed in January 2020 and the message on its website says: “due to severe flooding in the restaurant, followed by the Covid-19 pandemic and ongoing restrictions, we have been unable to welcome guests back to the restaurant. We will remain closed until we are in a position to re-open our doors.”
Summary
Tom Kitchin, with his wife and business partner, ventures into Edinburgh's southside with this Bruntsfield yearling, and early reports are all positive, if stopping short of out-and-out raves. “More than a neighbourhood bistro, the cooking is very precise and accomplished” (if – some feel – a tad “pricey”). There’s “a good variety of dishes catering to all tastes” and an above-average wine selection with good choices by the glass.
