It’s a confined dining area, though, which can “leave one at the mercy of the loudly expressed opinions of the other diners”.
“Wonderfully tasty food is served impeccably in a homely atmosphere” at Duncan Walker (ex-Gidleigh Park) and Anthea Christmas’s restaurant-with-rooms, on the edge of Dartmoor. For one reviewer, the “personal service” starters with an “Ideal” reception by “two friendly golden retrievers” – though “with just three tables in a small room” (and 17 covers total) you can’t help but snoop on fellow diners.
Dan Walker (ex-22 Mill Street) and Anthea Christmas’s inn remains “excellent as always” – particularly its “very high standard” of cooking; for overnighters, the “wonderful welcome” and “touches like afternoon tea on arrival make the whole experience very special” (“we almost felt like we were staying with old friends”).
