Since a change of team, this remote coaching inn “has raised its game” winning only positive feedback this year for its “innovative menu with local ingredients”: fans say it’s “back to Michelin star standards”.
With a change of regime, and new chef Gary Jarvis (ex-The Barn at Coworth Park) at the helm, this art-lined, remote coaching inn seems to be “back on track”. Some reports are still critical, but more often it’s credited with turning out “imaginative” food that’s “worth paying a little more for”.
The Curlew Restaurant Diner Reviews
"I visited this restaurant in its first week of opening so decided to return to see if the teething issues had been overcome.......wow YES! All appropriate social distancing processes set up. Taken to our table and given the menu, which isn’t huge, but that absolutely reflects the ethos of chef, quality not massive choice. The options are either a choice of small plates added together or a sharing main, we of course chose both! Started off with four small plates, sensational smoked Mackeral dish, hake, rabbit and cured fish. Each beautifully presented with exquisite flavours. Main was an absolutely perfect rack of lamb with hispi cabbage and interesting Tenterden potatoes.. Desserts were plum tart and a quite exceptional sea buckthorn and agastache merrangue that enters my top ten ever desserts! After so many meals, many michelin ones, I can say this venue has huge potential, it has taken the brilliant ethos of small holding (its older brother) and refined it! This is an absolute must of an outing Special mention to the waiter who noticed I had dripped a little sauce on my shirt and instantly bought me a wet cloth! Customer service is absolutely appropriately attentive but NOT invasive, Ps toilets immaculate with lots of signs and cleansing wipes! As it worth the two hours each way.....GOODNESS YES!!!!"
