Restaurateur Des McDonald (of Vintage Salt and Q Grill fame) sets his sights outside of the capital for his latest venture - a modern Japanese izakaya opening at the top of the Park Regis in Birmingham. The venue boasts views over the city from the 16th floor, as well as a 120-cover dining room and 100-cover cocktail lounge.
Harden's survey result
“Oh the view!” from the 16th-floor of the Park Regis (Brum’s highest restaurant!), home to Des McDonald’s year-old izakaya-themed venue. Some feedback gripes of “heavy handed, English-friendly Japanese food”, but the opposing verdict is that it’s “consistently excellent”.
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
