“Always a quality visit” – this restaurant (est. 2007) in a dark-wood Georgian former courthouse is presided over by siblings Matt and Michele Barker, with a terrace for summer dining. The unfussy, locally sourced British cooking is full of delightful things to eat, with the meats ‘a la plancha’ a particular hit – and the “lovely” set lunch representing “exceptional value”.

A Grade II-listed Georgian courthouse is the setting for siblings Michele (FOH) and Matt (chef) Barker’s long-running restaurant (est. 2007), whose “fantastic” locally sourced British cooking and appealing atmosphere make it “great for business, romance or lunch” (not least the “really good” set lunch in the case of the latter).

“Excellent food, attentive service and reasonable prices” – this 15-year-old venue in a converted Georgian courthouse “never fails” to please under its “lovely owner-hosts”, twins Michelle & chef Matt Barker, and their “friendly, welcoming team”. Top Tip – “the local Leven duck crispy salad is delicious”.

This modern brasserie in a Georgian courthouse is a “great all-rounder” that's “run by a brilliant team” (helmed by twins Michele & Matt Barker) who “work in concert to deliver a consistent, memorable and value-for-money experience” based around an oft-changing seasonal menu.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
