Harden's says

Much of Edo's menu centres around the wood-fired Bertha oven, roasting meats and fish to smokey perfection; other dishes on the 'European' menu tend toward the Spanish, with tapas, jamon and croquetas, with the odd visit to Italy and British pub classics (many are designed for sharing).

“Terrific” tapas-style dining with influences from around the Mediterranean draws a “buzzy crowd” to this popular venue near Belfast City Hall (the name means ‘I eat’ in Latin) – you’ll find “all sorts of delicious flavours, but fresh and tasty fishy things dominate”, and the “so-called ‘small plates’ are not that small!”. Founder Jonny Elliott and his partner, head chef Lottie Noren, opened a second venue last summer – Beau, in the city’s Cathedral Quarter.

A reputation for “innovative” and high-quality Spanish-influenced tapas has helped establish this buzzing venue near Belfast City Hall as one of the city’s better-known foodie destinations. Classical scholars will know that ‘edo’ is Latin for ‘I eat’, but the style of the place – with its long counter and kitchen on view – is very contemporary (and sometimes preferred at dinner rather than lunch).

Jonny Elliott’s “buzzing restaurant a short walk from Belfast City Hall” is set around “an open kitchen where you can sit and watch the busy chefs prepare your food”“Spanish (and more)-style plates with fresh local produce (the scallops were fabulous), a good wine list and friendly, attentive staff” make it an attractive option. Linguistic note: ‘edo’ is Latin for ‘I eat’.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
