This “excellent beachside restaurant” from experienced chef Andy Waters – one of the few in Britain to have worked under the late, great Paul Bocuse in Lyons – has a fitting focus on “good fish”, alongside classic pasta dishes and steaks. The terrace has lovely views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.

This “high-quality” restaurant with rooms excels for its “very good seafood” on an Italian-influenced menu from Andy Waters, one of vanishingly few British chefs to have worked under the great Paul Bocuse in Lyons. “A table on the terrace on a good day cannot be beaten”, with “great views” across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.

“Lovely views from the terrace over to the Needles” (“try to grab an outside table on those rare sunny days”) elevate a trip to this “light, airy establishment”, and by all accounts Karl Wiggins – who took the helm from longtime chef Pierre Chevillard in 2018 – has more than risen to the challenge, with “delicious”, “straightforward” seafood remaining a particular highlight.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
