“Lovely views from the terrace over to the Needles” (“try to grab an outside table on those rare sunny days”) elevate a trip to this “light, airy establishment”, and by all accounts Karl Wiggins – who took the helm from longtime chef Pierre Chevillard in 2018 – has more than risen to the challenge, with “delicious”, “straightforward” seafood remaining a particular highlight.

“Fresh and flavoursome fish” combine with “stunning sea views over the Solent to the Isle of Wight” at this “friendly” operation with a “lovely terrace” for al fresco meals. Chef Karl Wiggins took over in early 2018 from Pierre Chevillard, who had run the kitchen for more than a decade, and by all accounts the place “has kept up its very high standards”. Eating here is a pleasure “that’s not diminished by repeated visits”.

“A stupendous backdrop”“there are stunning views from the Isle of Wight to the Purbecks” both from the superb terrance and the interior – is matched by “amazing seafood” (“straightforward” but “staggering”) at Pierre Chevillard’s stalwart restaurant with rooms, where “you are made to feel very welcome”. “What better place for lunch on a summer’s day?”
