Famous for its “top-quality”, “astoundingly cheap” fish – this harbourside chippy has been owned since 2003 by Robert Smith, from a local fishing dynasty that stretches back to the 1700s. He set up supply specialist Argofish in nearby St Monans with his wife Alison in 1980.
“Putting up with the fast-food-joint interior, because of the quality of food” is all part of the experience at this “astoundingly cheap” and “warren-like” fish ‘n’ chippy – as is being prepared to queue (“everybody for miles around knows how good a place this is”).
“The best fish ’n’ chips in bonny Scotland!” (“and also the best cup of tea around”) plus a “lovely harbour setting” continue to make this “diner”-style venture a “very popular” destination; “it would cost at least double elsewhere!”
“A great establishment” combining the “freshest fish possible” with “perfect chips” and “amazing (non-greasy) batter”. You can eat in the 1950s-style dining room, but the spoils are arguably “best taken away and enjoyed by the harbour across the road”.
