Harden's survey result
Summary
“With excellent cooking, delightful service and an ambience to die for” – this beautifully restored but unspoilt village gastropub near the peaceful Dove Valley sources most of its ingredients within 15 miles. “Not able to go on a planned trip to France we had a long weekend in the Peak District instead. Relying on Harden’s, after some wandering around the area we finally found The George: completely delightful!”.
Summary
A new regime has done nothing to dent the charms of this “fantastic gastropub in the middle of nowhere” – it’s “just as beautiful as ever” while still being “a real pub”, and “the food, always good, has got better if anything”. Top Tip – “they now run good value set-menu tasting evenings; huge credit to anywhere brave enough to run an all-vegetarian evening in the beautiful depths of rural Staffordshire!”

Summary
A new landlord at this Peak District pub “got all the locals worried but the good news so far is that nothing’s changed for the worse – it’s still a flower-filled elegant pub, just rooted enough that you could still come here for a pint, but with some seriously good cooking in the middle of a beautiful village…everything anyone could want!”
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

The George Restaurant Diner Reviews

"The days when this was a pub have long gone: it is an unashamedly ambitious restaurant which charges full price for some very good cooking. The chef knows what he is doing, and as long as you can afford it this is the best place to eat in the Peak District"
