Harden's survey result
“An old favourite” (est 1995) for locals and a “place of pilgrimage” for visitors – this “really busy and buzzy” haunt “continues to deliver great food at very reasonable prices” – and “often hits the heights”. “When it comes down to it, it’s the service that makes the difference” under Sam Hayes, the long-time manager who bought the venue a few years ago.
“Aldeburgh is one of those lovely Suffolk coastal towns that punches way above its weight for restaurants, and the Lighthouse on the High Street, near the cinema, is the best for food (especially fresh fish)”. Leaving the “reliably competent” cooking aside though, it’s “the welcome that’s really the big thing here”, led by the “very friendly front of house” Sam.
“The newish owners have kept up the standard and the welcome (no surprise as Sam is still front of house)” at this favourite local destination – the most commented-on place in town, which serves “simple and good-value” (mostly fish-based) cuisine.
