Run by the Cooney family since 1967, and with staff almost as long-serving, this is a “venerable institution and very popular”; expect to queue and “eat on the beach” amid ravenous gulls (their sibling restaurant, the Golden Galleon, has an upstairs dining room).
“The beach is your dining room” (“fighting off the gulls whilst eating adds to the experience”) and the fish ’n’ chips are “very fresh” at this veteran family-run fixture.
“The reason I go to Aldeburgh – you will not get better fish ’n’ chips anywhere” (“the batter is so light” and “the chips are perfection”). Queues are par for the course, but “the people in line smile as they know what a treat that they have in store”.
“A ‘must do’ when in Aldeburgh” – this famous chippy serves “fish ’n’ chips that’s well worth queueing for”. “The meal is best eaten fighting off the gulls on the beach, or with a pint of Adnams in the pub courtyard next door.”
