2019 Review: “The great atmosphere of this historic building” – the town’s former corn exchange – provides a dramatic location for this large modern brasserie. In the evening, meat and steak-lovers are particularly well catered for, but there’s a wide variety of choice here from breakfast on (including sandwich options during the day).

“Still a pub with a decent pint of real ale but with serious ambition to become a fine dining restaurant” – Liam Dillon’s two-year-old pub conversion was Estrella Damm’s Newcomer of the Year in its February 2019 Top 50 Gastropub Awards, and manages to steer a course between its pubby origins and “well-prepared and attractively-presented food”, be it from the à la carte or ten-course tasting menu.
