Harden's survey result
For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
HFW’s attractive but “noisy” mill conversion continues to be a “variable” spot; “the ingredients are normally excellent”, but are ill-served by “sometimes strange” combinations, and “service needs improving” too.
“It’s Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall personified!” – “noisy”, “casual”, but all about “interesting (local) food” – say fans of his venture, in a striking mill near the cathedral. Some reviews are more reserved: “I found it variable: strange, imaginative combinations in dishes, but made with no finesse”.
“Close to the city centre”, this offbeat venue (part of Brum’s Polish Centre) is decked out like an old Polish country cottage (complete with thatched room and “sheepskins everywhere”). Fans say it’s “marvellous”, not least the solid Polish fare in “impossibly large portions”.
River Cottage Canteen Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Excellent meal; very generous portions - it’s a while since I’ve eaten so much meat at one sitting! Presentation not that impressive, but a very enjoyable evening. Interesting setting in old silk mill. Pleasant and helpful staff. Good to see locally sourced produce."
