Harden's survey result
For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
The original HdV maintains its consistency… for inconsistency; while fans this year praised its “wonderful” rooms, “exemplary” wines and food “SO much better than expected”, cynics felt the victuals “just didn’t come up to standard”, and service was also very “hit and miss”.
HdV’s original outpost continues to put in an up-and-down performance – even fans concede that service is still a “bit hit and miss”, and reports on the food are likewise mixed; one constant as you might hope – some good finds on the wine list.
The original branch of the '90s boutique hotel chain is “still a bit special”; the “great wine list with some notable good-value vintages” remains the star, but the food is “very good” too, with Sunday brunch “a steal (if tee-total!)”
On a good day, the potentially “romantic” original branch of the Hotel du Vin chain dishes up “good, reasonably-priced French brasserie-style food”; standards are not consistent, though, and those who complain of “dull” food in a “noisy” environment may just feel that it has “lost the plot”.
