Harden's survey result
Summary
This “unexpected gem” is “a true gastropub/hotel serving seafood in the middle of the Dales”, despite its name – and despite an inland setting almost as far as you can get in Yorkshire from either the North or the Irish Sea coast. This “can be a little confusing – almost as if it can’t make its mind up whether it’s a meat or a fish restaurant” – given that there’s a ‘grill-room’ list of steaks alongside the lobster and other seafood. Still, the food is all “very good quality”, while “service is always impeccable and discreet”.
Summary
“Fresh fish in the middle of The Dales!” – the unlikely hero at this “wonderful” and “quirky” village restaurant-with-rooms, be it “fish and chips to die for” or the lunchtime prawn sandwiches (“feels like you are eating an ocean’s worth”). Add in a “the warmest Yorkshire welcome imaginable” and it “has it all”.

Summary
This family-run village restaurant-with-rooms wins consistent ratings for its “lovely food”, including (despite its distinctly beefy name) a menu of “super fish” specialities.
For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

The Wensleydale Heifer Restaurant Diner Reviews

"Surprising and ambitious menu in this pub of many rooms that her ordinary from the outside but offers much when you make your way in. We tried the renowned fish and chips, although there were many more adventurous options, and it didn't disappoint. Better than a lot we've tried in Yorkshire, where they tend to know their batter. The welcome was good and the service outstanding. A rough diamond, maybe, but without doubt a gem. The setting, of course, is exceptional."
