This cute and characterful independent bistro offers a “lovely neighbourhood dining experience” in suburban St Margaret’s, with “very good cooking and presentation” from chef-patron Gianluca di Monaco, who learned his trade under Pierre Koffmann, doyen of French chefs in London. A favoured pit-stop before the rugby at nearby Twickenham – or to celebrate afterwards. Top Tip: “Chateaubriand to die for!”

Notably smart with its white tablecloths and stained-glass windows, this three-year-old St Margarets bistro is a hit with local diners for its “beautifully prepared” French classics, “friendly service and good ambience”. “The new vegetarian menu is a definite winner”, and for rugby fans, it’s “ideal when going to Twickers!”.

For 31 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"It's a very serious place, this - serious food and serious clientele. And serious prices! But hang on - we are in zone 4. And there's something a little stifling about this French classics menu in 2022. I mean they probably don't even stick to the script so religiously in Paris nowadays..."
