Just twenty six seats make this Tunbridge Wells restaurant an intimate and homely place to eat; menus change with the seasons, and 'Guest Chef Sundays' are a feature. The I’ll Be Mother group who owns The Twenty Six (also known as the Test Kitchen) also runs The Beacon in Tunbridge Wells and the Swan at the Chapel Down Vineyard.
Harden's survey result
“In an oasis for food”, this cosy branch of the Kent-based ‘I’ll be Mother’ group is the epitome of a “great local” serving some “genuinely exceptional cooking”. Chef Simon Ulph moved to Jackson Boxer’s new London venture, St Leonards, in June 2018, with Megs Buchanan stepping in at the stoves.
Simon Ulph’s “imaginative food from an interesting menu” wins high praise for this “cosy” venture, named for the number of diners this ‘test kitchen’ – part of the ‘I’ll be Mother’ group – can accommodate.
