Long-running Cotswold spa hotel (incorporating a 14th-century tithe barn) whose two dining options are led by the Brasserie, which is “highly recommended” for an “enjoyable meal, full of flavour – the hardest part is deciding what to order”. The Hive café/cocktail bar serves an array of small plates, and there’s a 220-acre estate to explore – much of it rewilded in recent years. Top Menu Tip – “cheese soufflé, one of the best ever”.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"I always enjoy Calcot, the atmosphere and service is great. I do miss the differentiation of The Gumstool and The Conservitory though. The food is good quality and nicely done, but for a hotel of this calibre it would be nice to have a few more refined and exciting things on the menu . It is very good, but pub food done well, sometimes it's nice to have something a bit more special where you can have 3 courses of manageable portions . I love a good burger or fish and chips, but maybe not for a special occasion which for me visits to Calcot usually are...."

"We had lunch in the Bistro. there is also another restaurant which looks less formal. The food was excellent, the tables well spaced out. 3 of us had the calves lover as a main course and it was most tasty. Desserts were also excellent and the whole experience including ample wine at around £60 a head including 12.5% service. Great ambiance and not noisy."
