Harden's survey result
Summary
With its untreated oak tables, black granite surfaces and antler candelabras, chef-patron Nick Gillespie’s unusual and “very quiet” venue makes an appropriate showcase for his distinctive modern British cooking, which provided some reporters’ best meal of the year. “Staff cannot do enough for you.”
Summary
Chef-owner Nick Gillespie’s “exceptional” modern British cuisine has won considerable acclaim for his “lovely gem” of a restaurant over the past ten years. Set in an unusual location off the M1, its bare oak tables and brick walls combine with black granite and antler candelabras for a striking interior.
For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

La Rock Restaurant Diner Reviews
"Brilliant. Almost Hamilton Hall creativity and quality at less cost than pretentious gastropub (Olive Branch, Clapham for example) prices. Unlikely setting in a fairly unattractive town, but the welcome, atmosphere, service and cooking are first class. This is a local gem that should be better known and more widely praised."
