Harden's survey result
A rather traditionally decorated country house hotel in the Peak District (dating from 1652, and with gardens bordering the River Derwent) with both a bar and ambitious (if pricey) restaurant, where Dan Smith’s cooking continues to win very solid ratings. There’s a range of menus, running up to a 10-course tasting option.
A small, classy Peak District hotel where Tom Aikens protégé Dan Smith turns out some “excellent” dishes (and where even the most downbeat report noted the cooking’s “clear potential”). There’s also a cosy, more relaxed bar with its own menu.
For 30 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
