Harden's survey result
A rather traditionally decorated country house hotel in the Peak District (dating from 1652, and with gardens bordering the River Derwent) with both a bar and ambitious (if pricey) restaurant, where Dan Smith’s cooking continues to win very solid ratings. There’s a range of menus, running up to a 10-course tasting option.
A small, classy Peak District hotel where Tom Aikens protégé Dan Smith turns out some “excellent” dishes (and where even the most downbeat report noted the cooking’s “clear potential”). There’s also a cosy, more relaxed bar with its own menu.
A country house hotel “in the heart of the beautiful Peak District” which provides “great food and so much more” (think white-gloved service and roaring fires).
The Peacock at Rowsley Restaurant Diner Reviews
"I first came here as a school boy 60 years ago. And at least the bar has not changed - great ambience."
