Our feedback is stellar, as it often has been regarding Chris and Gunna Chown’s wonderful retreat – a Grade II listed restaurant-with-rooms outside Pwllheli, which they took back from a management company that they felt had made a poor fist of running it after they retired. We’ve left it un-rated however as change is again afoot – having recently failed to sell the business as a going concern, in October 2018 they announced they are now applying for planning permission to sell it as a residence as they no longer feel it is viable as a restaurant.
Set in a “glorious” country location, this landmark restaurant-with-rooms boasts nearly three decades in business. Following a brief handover to other management in 2016, longtime owners Gunna and Chris Chown have resumed control of the property to ensure a continuation of the impeccable standards that have carved its reputation.
The Chowns’ “elegant” restaurant-with-rooms is “set in beautiful grounds” with a “lovely veranda”, and – with its “delicious” food and “unobtrusive” service – has offered a “dining experience to remember” for nearly 30 years now. Stop Press – in September 2015 they put the business up for sale, so the future of one of Wales’s best destinations is currently uncertain.
