Our feedback is stellar, as it often has been regarding Chris and Gunna Chown’s wonderful retreat – a Grade II listed restaurant-with-rooms outside Pwllheli, which they took back from a management company that they felt had made a poor fist of running it after they retired. We’ve left it un-rated however as change is again afoot – having recently failed to sell the business as a going concern, in October 2018 they announced they are now applying for planning permission to sell it as a residence as they no longer feel it is viable as a restaurant.
Set in a “glorious” country location, this landmark restaurant-with-rooms boasts nearly three decades in business. Following a brief handover to other management in 2016, longtime owners Gunna and Chris Chown have resumed control of the property to ensure a continuation of the impeccable standards that have carved its reputation.
The Chowns’ “elegant” restaurant-with-rooms is “set in beautiful grounds” with a “lovely veranda”, and – with its “delicious” food and “unobtrusive” service – has offered a “dining experience to remember” for nearly 30 years now. Stop Press – in September 2015 they put the business up for sale, so the future of one of Wales’s best destinations is currently uncertain.
Long-serving boutique Restaurant with Rooms housed in a classic Georgian manor house, set in 5 acres of secluded gardens on the stunning Llyn Peninsula between Abersoch and Pwllheli. Owned and run by Chris and Gunna Chown for 32years.
Hugh Bracegirdle has been at Plas Bodegroes for 11 years. He has worked alongside Chris Chown to maintain Plas Bodegroes's reputation as one of Wales's leading restaurants.
